Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers is a 2007 drama film based on the Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell.
It features discrimination between students, they separates bright students to the at-risk students also known as unteachable. Erin Gruwell is became the teacher of the at-risk students. Erin students felt neglected by the school so they do whatever they want, they cut classes, involved themselves in gang fights and some of them didn't attend school at all. The school heads are very uncooperative telling her she need to focus on disciplining the students rather than teaching them. The school didn't allow them to use books in fear being damaged and lost. Erin made them read a book of Anne Frank diary, her adventures, her fears, her lovelife, her stay in the attic when Hitler ordered to kill every Jews. The students were engrossed in reading the book. Erin let them keep a diary just like Anne Frank, she reads them everyday after class. After reading each diary, she understands why her students have such behavior. They've been trough a lot. She didn't teach them traditionally, she teach them by how her students learn and associate themselves to learn. She conducts activities and encourages them to write. By the end of the school year, fighting ceased and they established a school newspaper.
Teacher is the second parent of the students. Some of them didn't have the house to call home, teacher need to let them know they are welcome and wanted. Teachers job is not just to teach the students but also to cultivate their behavior and attitudes. Every child is a potential genius. Teachers just need to help them find out what they're good at and enriched them.
