A local from Africa harvesting corn. |
By 2050, we'll need to feed 2 billion more people added to the current world population. How are we going to accommodate them?
But Africa with its vast desert prove to have the highest yield gap on earth. The land although a desert have a rich soil to be cultivated. Since 2007, investors all over the world bought lands in Africa and do farming, planting corns, soybeans, wheat, rice some of them plant fruits and vegetables suitable for the climate and land in Africa. Investors bought their land from the government, employers employ the locals, their economy is blooming every year.
In Africa there is plenty of land to plow and experiment with. If the agriculture continue its growth and investor continue seeing the possibility having profit in it, Africa will be the next breadbasket in the planet. Most countries will import their food from Africa. Africa will be from one of the hungriest place in the world to the next supplier\exporter of food to the planet. By that we ca accommodate people without being short of supply, if the growth continues.
very informative :)
